Poster
Here is my Poster so far. I plan to put an image of the band members on the front with them stood in-front of a green screen placing them on a ship to create the effect of linking between the album creating the sense of realism in my work.

As discussed, have another look at your digipak; the panes are muddles in the wrong order. If you are doing an artistic piece, try to make sure it still looks professional and suits the genre of your band. What colours will reflect the genre and how does the style of it link to your advert?

Digipak
Here is my plan for my digipak which is based off the album name where all images reflect that name of "What Separates me from you" The images link from the front cover to the inside and under the disk. I did this as A Day To Remember usually have very artistic drawn digipaks which link together throughout, which is why I took this idea and created my own version. I then opened up draw plus and tried to fill in the digipak with colour however the software did not like my drawing and would not colour correctly meaning I had to spend time a colour by hand my digipak. As you can see I swapped the back and inside as when I drew I realized that you would not be able to read the song names.
Looking at how my digipak has turned out I have decided it does not work therefore i need to change it. As in the music video's well as other music videos the woods is used I have decided I will take photographs of the band in the woods in order to create a new digipak.

Locations:
Woods: The woods symbolizes being alone and not fitting in, in the world therefore being in the woods all alone highlights that idea. The issue with this is the fact that it is outside means the weather will change which makes continuity editing important as I need the same lighting and weather throughout.
Classroom: Boy and Girl paired together recently broke up it is awkward and difficult to talk to each other.
Drama Studio?/Small Hall?: Drama studio curtains can be pulled back creating a dark room as well as access to lights making a good performance video. However if this cannot be used them could use small hall as it is isolated and a small room where a real band could rehearse however drama studio is preferred as it has more desirable lighting to film in that also reflects the genre. The issue with the drama studio is I would need to get someone to work the lighting board meaning I must create a lighting sheet.
Outside sixth form: one shot shows the main boy walking into school.
Lounge: watching TV to show a calm environment/ playing Xbox.

Storyboard
Here is my storyboard for my music video. As you can see I have thought about what I want to show my audience with lyrics relating to the video I.E. "where will I find where I fit in?" the guy is then in the woods isolated and alone.

Pitch and feed back
During my Pitch I got some good feedback which is to research deeper into my audience to fully understand them and situations they will be in. By doing this it will let my audience connect to my music video with a good solid idea for showing difficulties in relationships both friendship and relationships. This is easy to connect with making it personal to the audience. I will hold a focus group where i play my song to people and get their opinions on the song and how it makes them feel.

Linkin Park
Here is the official music video of Linkin Parks song Numb.
<
Here is my music video analysis of the song.
Here is the album cover for Linkin Parks album Meteora. You can see the colour scheme here is generally black, white and yellow. You can see someone spray painting with a gas mask on with the band spray painted onto the wall . The band name at the top is in very bold black and yellow font. At the bottom of the album is the name of the album with both pieces of writing boxed in showing importance and creating an icon representation of the band. The album cover is simple and effect showing the band below the band name showing creativity in the cover with the album name clearly displayed.
This is Linkin Parks advert for Meteora. As a you can see it
is very dark by lots of black being used. As you can see at the top of the
advert it has the name of the band in a bold white artistic font. Below that
you can see new album written also in a white font. Below that you can see the
name of the album in a large font that is a different colour to the rest of the
text and matches the background of the image. The image you can see is a man
wearing a gas mask as he is spray painting which works well with the name of
the band at the top where it has a few dark patches as if spray painted. In a
big and bold font you can see the release date of the album with the bands
website below telling the audience where to go and buy the album. This is
effective as it is simple for the audience to understand and draws the audience’s
attention to the album name and release date which is the most important thing
about advertising the album. This is done by using large font size in comparison
to the rest of the text displayed. The band’s
name is also drawn to the attention of the audience due to the marks which
appear to box in the name of the band which no other text has showing that it
is
important.
important.

You Me At Six
This is You Me At Six- Underdog (Performance and loose narrative story)
Camera: Starts off dark by a band member and slowly moves back to see the whole band. It continues to flow around the band by panning across the room and getting mid shots and close ups of band members with different angles of the lead singer (front and sides).
Editing: In this music video there is lots of short shots lasting 1-2 seconds following the music beat. It jumps between performance and narrative of the video. The narrative is loose you only see short shots of the narrative but can pick up on what is going on with all the little clips. The video starts off with no lights on and ends the same way physically showing us when the song is over.
Mise en scene: Throughout this video a lot of black and red is seen these colours generally are associated with the genre Rock. This shows us the genre through the video without the lyrics. You can see the band members have dark hair some have long hair which is also associated with rock. All of the band members are wearing black wither that's a coat or shirt. They are all head-banging or at least moving with the beat of the song to emphasise movement. The two female roles in this video are very different they are opposites of each other from hair colour to the clothes they wear. I think the location of the video is good as for a performance you just want a large open space which they had so just the band was seen as well as enough space for the video to be recorded from different angles. What I think is a cinema hallway is effective too as the cinema is a common place to go on a date and the song is about him cheating on his girlfriend by taking them both to the cinema.
Laura Mulvey's theory can be applied only slightly to the music video as for a very brief time females in the video. You saw them putting make-up on and kissing a boy as well as watching the brunette girl dancing. it is only loosely applied. Andrew Goodwin's theory is also very briefly applied "look at the mess we made" and we see the brunette girl crying with her make-up running which obviously causes a mess. This links to his theory as it is shown that women are expected to put make on and kiss guys because that is what is generally expected. Talking about a mess when make up is running makes it seem like it is saying you need make up not to be a mess. This suggests that women in todays society have to wear make up to look pretty as that is what is generally expected of them.
This is You Me At Six's digipak of the album "Hold Me Down". This album cover is very colourful which is unusually for a rock band as you would expect dark colours. This is very artistic and that says a lot about the band. As they are creating a very artsy digipak it shows what at least one band member is like, he is artistic and likes to create things including the music. As you can see the bands name is in a bold font which is bigger than the album name which is smaller and located below the band name in a handwritten style. This is effective as it shows the difference between album and band with neat handwriting making it look artistic just like the design of the cover.
here is a magazine advert for YMAs Hold me down. You can see the digipak is the background with bottom central bright yellow text standing out saying when it will be released. The font is very bold and by the release date being a much larger font size it is highlighting the important information for the audience where as the smaller font says that it is new and available on both CD and Download.

Target audience
Target Audience Descriptions
ADTR ( A Day To Remember)
The genre of the music is; Metalcore, pop punk, hardcore punk, post-hardcore.
Male or Female – 16-25 years old. Due to this age a lot of the audience might be students in college/ Sixth form or even University. They are big music lovers. who like bands such as A Day to
Remember, You Me at Six, Bring Me the Horizon and many other bands. Many of the
audience will be students but can have any job. People with boring jobs might
like more metal music to escape the boring job (this is all down to opinion and depends on the individuals skill set) Some of the fans might even
have their own band making them like this kind of music more to get ideas for
their own music. Favourite films are horror films and thrillers. It is stereotyped that this audience has long dark hair and lots of piercings but anyone can be a fan. They like to go to concerts and gigs going in Mosh Pits.
Types of music videos
There are three types of music videos; Narrative, Performance and Concept.
Narrative music videos are videos with a storyline which usually relates to the lyrics of the song. For example:
Performance music videos are videos where all you see is the band playing instruments and singing for example:
Concept music videos are artistic videos for example:
A lot of music videos are a mix between narrative music videos and performance music videos for example :
Music videos also often feature intertextuality. This is where a music video makes a reference to another music video or a film.

Theories
The Andrew Goodwin Theory
Andrew Goodwin came up with a theory about music videos.
The Laura Mulvey Theory
This theory has 3 key aspects of the male gaze. The cameraman, the characters and the spectator. All of these roles have the males gaze where you focus on woman and what they wear and what they are doing rather than other things going on in the video. This is used to attract the attention of male audience members just like Goodwin's Voyeurism.
Andrew Goodwin came up with a theory about music videos.
- Relationship between lyrics and visuals- Goodwin believes that if the lyrics of the song and what we as an audience see in the music video it should give us a better understanding and emotional connection to the song increasing the popularity of the song.
- Iconography- If a band has an iconography it means by looking at the video and they way they look the audience will recognize them as it is unique and reflects the genre of their music.
- Close ups- In majority of music videos close ups are included on an important person and as an audience we should pay attention to the and what they are doing as they are important.
- Voyeurism- This tends to apply to male audiences where in a music video you see a woman in 'sexy' clothing which gets male audience members interested in the video and wanting to continue to watch. It is also filmed to seem to be from the audiences view looking at these woman and their clothes.
- Intertextual- Intertextual references are where in a music video a scene is copied from another video which people will recognize. This can be used for comedy or metaphors/ simile

A Day To Remember
Here is the music video for A Day To Remembers song " I'm Made of Wax, Larry, What Are You Made Of?"
This is A Day To Remembers digipak for what separates me from you. As you can see the digipak is very smart. The name of the album "What Separates me from you" is shown clearly on the cover but the image also shows us that as people are walking around freely but one man is stuck in an hourglass therefore separating him from everyone else. This is effective as it is unique and a drawing or painting where as usually you get a photograph or a split cover, This also has the main man in the centre of the art making him more surrounded and separate.
Here is a poster advertising ADTR's album What Separates Me From You. As you can see at the top of the poster is an artistic display of the bands name and below has the band posing. You see all the band members in different poses all looking at the camera looking happy and having fun. The background as you can see is an artsy street which matches the design of the drawings in the cover photo. Below the band highlighted by a blue strip you can see a photo of the album cover with the information next to it. The important words are highlighted by being purple rather than white which tells us its new when it is out and to order the album now. This gives the audience clear instructions on what to do. If you look closely at the background of the poster then of the album cover it appears to be on the same street and on the album with the man in the hourglass looking out appears to be where the band is stood. Looking at the band clothing you can see they all wear black white and red is the three colours associated with rock genre.Thursday, 15 September 2016
